Fabrice Tarel

Fabrice Tarel commence la musique par le violon à 7 ans, auquel vient s’ajouter le piano peu de temps après. Son intérêt précoce pour la composition s’intensifie avec les années, lui permettant de développer peu à peu un univers d’une grande singularité.

Il réside de 2004 à 2007 en Angleterre et est diplômé du Leeds College of Music. Il étudie notamment auprès de l’étonnant Matthew Bourne et assiste à des masters class avec Dave Liebman et Jerry Bergonzi. Il ne cesse alors de maintenir des liens avec ce pays, notamment avec la scène londonienne qui connaît une dynamique assez exceptionnelle.

Ainsi, il collabore ainsi à de nombreuses reprises avec des artistes britanniques de renom : Tom Ollendorff, Emma Rawicz, Tom Barford, Riley Stone-Lonergan, Alexandra Ridout, Tom Harrison ou encore avec le batteur Andy Barron, installé en France depuis une vingtaine d’années.

Fabrice Tarel s’est produit sur de nombreuses scènes à ce jour : Jazz à Vienne, Le Vortex (Londres), Le Sunside (Paris), Medien Campus Villa (Leipzig), à l’AGMJ et l’ONU (Genève), Festival Lumières, Jazz en Touraine, Jazz à Junas, Rhino Jazz, Jazz en Velay, au Palais de la Bourse (Lyon), le Dôme de l’Hôtel Dieu (Lyon), Jazz aux Carrés, Jazz’Alès, Le Crescent, Jazz à Val Thorens, Lac in Blue Festival (Annecy), Le Jam, le Festival d’été du Havre, à la Grande Halle d’Auvergne, l’Auditorium du Musée Würth, au Musée Gallo-Romain de Saint Romain en Gal, ou encore à l’Opéra de Lyon…

Il a sorti 7 disques sous son nom à ce jour, et à participé à plusieurs enregistrements en qualité de sideman.

Le parcours de Fabrice Tarel est jalonné de rencontres avec des groupes et artistes d’horizons divers, notamment Stéphane Guillaume, Eric Prost, Tim Giles, Florent Nisse, Gregory Sallet, Nacim Brahimi, François Gallix, Gil Lachenal, Jean Gobinet, Percy Pursglove, Adrian Ingram, Krzysztof Majchrzak, Marc Michel et Anne Sila.

Alexandra Ridout was crowned the winner of the BBC Young Musician Jazz Award 2016 at the age of 17. ” We were enchanted by Alexandra’s presence as a musician, her sound, but I think most importantly there was a relationship with the blues and swinging that sounds important in her playing” – Julian Joseph, Chair of the jury of the BBC Young Musician Jazz Award 2016.


Short Biog: Alexandra has been playing the trumpet since she was nine. At 17, she was the winner of the BBC Young Musician Jazz Award 2016 and at 19 she won the British Jazz Awards 2018 ‘Rising Star’ category.

Alexandra began studying at the prestigious Royal Academy of Music September ’17 on a scholarship. She performs around the country in Festivals, Arts Centres, Music Societies and all major Jazz clubs with ‘The Alexandra Ridout Quintet’ her own band of talented young jazz musicians, NYJO (National Youth Jazz Orchestra) of which she is a ‘chair’ (member), Clark Tracey’s Tribute to Stan Tracey’s Hexad, The Barford/Stoneman Organ Quintet and ‘The Ridouts’ a family band. Alexandra is also a member of The Matthew Herbert Brexit Big Band and has performed with them at the North Sea Jazz Festival, Jazz Middelheim and the Barbican Centre.

Alexandra has had her music played on various Radio 3 show’s, Jazz FM and was the featured soloist on a broadcast throughout Europe at the end of 2016.

In the Dec 17/Jan 18 issue of Jazzwise magazine Alexandra is noted in ‘The shape of jazz to come: who to look out for in 2018’- “Trumpeter Alexandra Ridout was an outstanding winner of the BBC young musician jazz award of 2016 and just keeps on growing as an artist.”

Alexandra has been chosen by British Jazz luminary Clark Tracey to join his prestigious quintet in its new line up for 2018.
